Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP)

How much do we receive each year for STAP funds?

Regular or fixed-term employees working 50% of the time or more receive $800/year; you can see how much you have left for the year in Axess. You receive the $800 on the first day of our new fiscal year (Sept. 1); any STAP funds that you don’t use throughout the year will not roll over to the next fiscal year.

What can I use my STAP funds on?

You can use your STAP funds on the following: tuition/registration fees, required course textbooks, Stanford Technology Training courses, Stanford Healthy Living courses (where designated as STAP approved), Stanford Continuing Studies courses, Stanford Online professional education courses, Stanford Talent Management & Workforce Strategy courses, Stanford Career Counseling Network (up to $500), Stanford Children’s Health parenting and prenatal courses (only the employee’s portion of the course fee; not family members if joining a course), courses/workshops/webinars (ie Coursera or SkillPath), seminar/professional conference registration fees.

The following are not eligible for STAP funds use: exams/testing, coaching services, test preparation courses (GMAT, LSAT, GRE, MCAT), courses involving sports/games/hobbies, reference books, health-related courses (except Healthy Living courses), training to meet minimum educational requirements of the current job, professional membership fees/subscriptions, travel expenses, Rosetta Stone Language CDs or similar programs.

How do I use my STAP funds?

If you're using STAP funds for a Stanford program, there’s usually a box you can check to use the STAP funds when paying. If you're using STAP funds for something outside of Stanford, you will submit a reimbursement form.

I-9

How do I sign up for an I-9 appointment?

Sign up on the Central I-9 Appointment website.

*Note: Some departments and schools do not utilize the Central I-9 appointment locations to complete the verification process. Please check with your local HR point of contact to see if an appointment is needed.

Who can I reach out to for I-9 questions?

Please email I-9 questions to I9Central@stanford.edu or your local HR contact.

Stanford ID card

Where can I get a Stanford ID card?

Right now you can only do physical badge pick-ups on Stanford campus. There is a Redwood City badging office, but that is currently closed with no set re-opening date. You must make a badging appointment to get a physical badge.

How do I sign up for a physical Stanford ID card appointment?

Retirement

How do I sign up for the monthly retirement session?

You can sign up for the monthly retirement overview session at this link. If none of these dates work for your schedule, there is a recorded version of the presentation available on demand on Cardinal at Work.

Benefits

When does the benefits overview session happen?

There is a benefits overview session every Tuesday at 11:00am PST. If Monday is a day off, the Welcome Center orientation moves to Tuesday and the benefits overview session moves to Wednesday.

What is the link to the benefits session?

You can find the link to the benefits session in your welcome email from "welcome-to-stanford@stanford.edu."

How long do I have to enroll in benefits?

You must enroll in benefits within 31 days of your start date. You must log in and make a selection even if you want to decline coverage. Those who do not make a selection within 31 days of their start date will be automatically enrolled.

Welcome gift

Will I receive a welcome gift from Stanford?

Please note: this program is slated to launch in February 2024

Yes, benefits-eligible employees who attend the Welcome Center will receive an email with a $25 Fanatics virtual gift card to use on our GoStanford website. Please note that you will receive the email within a week of starting at Stanford and that the gift card expires after 30 days.

Does the gift card code cover cover shipping, handling, and tax?

The gift card code does not cover shipping, handling, or tax.

I still have additional questions; who should I reach out to?
