Stanford has teamed up with Nationwide Insurance to offer benefits-eligible employees coverage for their dogs, cats, birds and exotic pets. Under Nationwide’s plan(s), you can continue to see your family vet because this insurance is accepted by veterinarians worldwide.
Nationwide Pet Insurance plans with preferred pricing are offered to Stanford employees. Greater discounts may apply if you have multiple pets. Nationwide’s pet policies are guaranteed issuance, meaning each pet will be issued a pet policy, however it does not guarantee coverage (i.e., pre-existing conditions exclusions may apply).
Note: Effective in 2025, My Pet Protection Choice (MPPC) will be the primary pet protection plan available through Nationwide. Nationwide is discontinuing their My Pet Protection and My Pet Protection with Wellness plans. If you are currently enrolled in either of these two policies, depending on your state of residence and next renewal date, you will be offered the opportunity to transition to MPPC in either 2025 or 2026. At that time, Nationwide will send you a non-renewal notice as well as an offer letter for the MPPC plan, with instructions on how to proceed. Communication regarding renewal should be sent 60-90 days before your next renewal date. If you do not receive any information during that time, please reach out to Nationwide. For prospective enrollees who do not currently have a policy with Nationwide, your current plan options are dependent on your state of residence, as the effective date of the MPPC plans differs between areas. Note: Effective July 1, 2024, Nationwide will not renew their legacy Major Medical policies in California. Nationwide will notify impacted California residents beginning July 17, 2024, for policies that renew September 28, 2024, or later about changes to policies as part of a conditional renewal at a lower reimbursement percentage.
