Medicare Plan Resources

Main content start

The key difference between the two types of Medicare-compatible plans we offer is the way billing is handled between you, your plan and Medicare.

Medical plan information can be found below for each Medicare-compatible Stanford plan, as well as helpful information about steps you must take when it comes to electing, or changing, your Medicare plan.

Enrollment & Disenrollment Forms

If you enroll or disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan, there is an extra form you must complete to alert the plan and Medicare that you are changing the way you’ve assigned your Medicare benefits. Depending on the elections you're making in My Benefits, a Medicare Advantage Enrollment or Disenrollment form will be mailed to you or you'll be prompted to complete it online. You can also download the forms here. You only have to complete it once. Note: Medicare does not allow a PO Box for your physical address on your Medicare Advantage form; Stanford and Medicare both must have your physical home address.

Streamline the Claims Process with Medicare Crossover Billing

When you are in a Medicare Supplement plan, getting reimbursement is a two-step process. First your doctor bills Medicare and they pay their benefit. Then you submit the remainder – along with proof of Medicare’s payment to your medical plan.
To avoid this process, when you receive your retiree medical card in the mail, call the member services group of your health plan and ask to set up Medicare Crossover Billing. This allows Medicare to send your Medicare Part B claims directly to your health plan after Medicare pays their portion. After that, if any money is owed, you will be billed by your doctor’s office. To set up Medicare Crossover Billing, call your medical plan and give them two pieces of information that you can find on your Medicare Card:

  • Your Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI)
  • The effective date of your Medicare Part A and Part B
