Eligibility
There are three types of contributions in Stanford Contributory Retirement Plan (SCRP): Pre-tax, After-tax, and Roth. All Stanford employees* are eligible to enroll in the SCRP, and benefits-eligible employees can receive matching contributions from the university after one year of service.**
Here is an overview of the contribution types:

| Contribution Limits | IRS Pre-tax and Roth limit: This includes Pre-tax and Roth 403(b) contributions made at Stanford, plus Pre-tax contributions to other employer plans this year. After-tax contributions are not included in this limit. Pre-tax contributions are capped at 75% of eligible pay. IRS Total limit: This caps the sum of your retirement savings contributions at Stanford and elsewhere, and includes Stanford's basic and matching contributions. | ||
| Portability | All Stanford employees are 100% vested immediately. When you leave Stanford, you can take your entire SCRP account balance with you. | ||
NOTE: If you have been hired into active employment that qualifies for benefits (faculty or staff), and you have prior university employment, Postdoctoral Appointment, or employment within a Controlled Group (SHC, LPCH, etc.), you may have additional eligibility criteria to consider. Please complete the Request for Prior Service Verification for SCRP Eligibility or contact the Stanford HR Service Center for assistance at 877-905-2985.
*You are not eligible to participate in the Plan if you are a student employee whose primary affiliation with the university is as a regularly enrolled student or if you are a nonresident alien who is not receiving U.S. source income.
**All rehires are required to resubmit their eligible SCRP elections. Prior elections will not be reinstated, and auto-enrollment will not take place.
