What is one thing that you like about working at Stanford?
The people - I've worked with so many smart, funny, dedicated people over the years. The landscape, which also comes down to the people: The campus wouldn't be as beautiful without the crews that maintain the grounds; they are an essential ingredient of the "secret sauce" that makes Stanford Stanford. The supervisors and colleagues have been supportive and flexible over the years, making it possible for me to have a career here on a part-time schedule.
What is one of your favorite memories while working at Stanford?
I met my husband at Stanford. While getting to know each other, we used to eat lunch outside near the library, where he worked (and still does). I would meet him in the library and we'd walk out together. I'll never forget the day when as we were leaving the library at lunchtime, Henry's colleague Jane Vaden asked, "And where are you lovebirds headed today?" and we told her we were headed to Redwood City to get married at the county clerk's office. She was so excited because we hadn't told anyone at work, and she was the first to learn the news.
Leave your Legacy: What piece of guidance would you give a new hire at Stanford?
Talk to people -- you will make so many connections on campus!
