Do Good with Cardinal at Work Cares

Main content start
Cardinal at Work Cares

At Stanford, we are continually looking for new ways to make the world a better place. Our employee volunteer program, Cardinal at Work Cares, leverages the skills and resources of the Stanford community to address shared social and environmental concerns.

There are many non-profit organizations here and across the country that greatly need your time, talents, and knowledge, and where your contributions will drive tangible, positive change. Together with the obvious gains for our communities and benefiting organizations, mounting evidence shows that giving back confers numerous benefits to those who contribute too. You may explore new interests or find a new sense of purpose, connection, and emotional well-being. You may develop new skills or grow your professional network. It’s the quintessential win-win situation.

Three easy ways to “do good” in your community

Community Opportunities Platform

Our volunteer platform makes it easy for you to connect with your community. Look for ways to get involved or share a service organization you are passionate about. Log in with single sign-on (SSO) to start your volunteer journey.

Donation Drives

A direct way to help our neighbors is to contribute to an upcoming donation drive. At various events throughout the year, we will collect donations – both in person and virtually – from canned food and backpacks to blankets and toys.

Team Experiences

With Cardinal at Work Cares for Teams, you can build meaningful connections with the community and your colleagues. Apply for a team volunteer experience with HandsOn Bay Area (HOBA), which may involve going off-site to work directly with a non-profit or coordinating a “project in a box” activity for your team to complete together at your work site. You’ll enjoy spending time with one another while also giving back.

Interested in participating remotely?

You can participate in the Cardinal at Work Cares program wherever you live. You can also contribute to an upcoming donation drive through our Amazon wish list and explore the Community Opportunities Platform for volunteer opportunities in your area.

Stay connected

Join Stanford’s university-wide Slack channel (requires SSO) to connect with colleagues who share your passion for volunteering. Inspire others with your own volunteer stories, suggest resources, or ask questions about how to get involved.

Giving back during work hours/on workdays

Some organizations seek volunteer support during the workday. Paid time off (PTO) is available so you can tend to personal commitments including community service activities. Please discuss your request for time off to volunteer with your manager, as you would for any activity that causes you to be absent when you are scheduled to work. Volunteer opportunities for Stanford organizations or Stanford-sponsored events should also be discussed with your manager and local human resources office.

Employer matching: Stanford’s status as a 501c3 non-profit organization precludes us from having a matching gift program.
