Flexible Work policies updated in Admin Guide
The way we work, or the way we could possibly work, has been top of mind for many of us throughout the pandemic. Led by the Flexible Work Committee’s guiding principles, we were charged to examine and challenge many pre-pandemic business assumptions and explore how we might operate as a hybrid organization while supporting an educational mission and research enterprise that is largely in-person.
During the summer, the Flexible Work Committee rolled out Flexible Work Playbooks to school and unit leadership, as well as to people managers, providing a consistent framework for addressing culture and equitable decisions around flexibility. At the same time, the committee reviewed the existing policy on telecommuting and remote work, AGM 2.1.20, along with associated policies and work arrangement agreements. Today, the university now has two policies to support you and your team in defining flexible work:
- Hybrid Work Arrangements (AGM 2.1.20)
- Remote Work Arrangements (AGM 2.1.21)
Some of the key changes to the policy include:
- Simplifying and clarifying the existing policy and separating the AGM into two policies (Hybrid and Remote)
- Expanding eligibility criteria for hybrid and remote work arrangements, including eliminating the six-month service requirement and expanding it to include temporary and casual employees
- Updating definitions
- Updating expense reimbursement guidance for home office equipment provisions and travel
Information about these policies is now available on the Flexible Work section of Cardinal at Work. As work arrangement agreements are managed at the school/unit level, you should consult with your manager or with your local HR Manager for guidance and next steps.

We are one step further in this long-term initiative.”
