The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in a Learning Environment (IDEAL) initiative provides resources and community events to support Stanford's long range vision and commitment to an inclusive, equitable community.
A key initiative begins with a pilot program this summer for staff; approximately 225 staff will participate in The IDEAL Learning Journey to build self-awareness of, and learn about, biases, racism and injustice, microaggressions, diversity and social justice and how it shows up at Stanford, and to gain the skills needed to change behaviors and habits to create an inclusive environment where staff feel safe to speak up and stand up to racism. After the pilot concludes in late summer and feedback is incorporated, the goal is to offer the learning journey university-wide. The Staff Advisory Committee guides the strategic direction of IDEAL for staff, and proposes programs and initiatives to further diversity and inclusion at Stanford. Committee members represent schools and units across campus and partner with the IDEAL project team to prioritize efforts and advance issues and recommendations to Executive Leadership. To align strategic efforts across students, faculty and staff, the Staff Advisory Committee will also partner with the Student and Faculty Advisory Committees currently being formed.
