New resource makes finding interview questions easier

The new interview question library is now available for most non-academic managers and HR professionals at Stanford.

The interview question library, created as part of the Inclusive Talent Acquisition (ITA) program, is a compilation of competency-based questions for interviewing staff candidates.

This new resource offers hiring managers and HR professionals at Stanford the ability to search for suggested interview questions based on Stanford’s staff competencies. Competency-based interviews help to provide more objectivity to the interview process by probing for specific job-related examples and greater clarity into the skills and abilities candidates may bring to the position. The questions in the library have been sourced and reviewed over time, including questions from external resources as well as recruiters and managers at Stanford. New questions can be submitted on an ad-hoc basis and the library is a “living” resource that will be regularly updated. Users are able to download selected interview questions and actively track the status of interview questions submitted to the library.

Interview question library access

The interview question library link, related user guides, and forms for requesting access and providing feedback were added to the Manager Toolkit “Interviewing & Selection” webpage on April 28, 2023. Access to the interview question library has been proactively granted to those in the following groups:

  • Non-academic people managers with at least one active direct report
  • HR professionals within the Human Resource Services job family

Please note that this first version of the interview question library is not available for people managers and HR professionals located within schools and units that are in the first wave of Inclusive Talent Acquisition (ITA) program implementation—this first wave includes the Graduate School of Business, the School of Engineering, the Vice Provost and Dean of Research, and the Vice Provost for Student Affairs. The interview question library needs further enhancements in order to align with the ITA process, which means it will not be widely available to ITA wave one schools and units until updates have been made. The interview question library will be updated by early fall 2023, at which time access will be extended to schools and units currently implementing the ITA program.

If a non-academic people manager, an HR professional, or an individual staff contributor from any school or unit would like access and they were not already granted access, they will be able to submit an access request for themselves as well as on behalf of other staff members via a form. Users may also submit feedback via a separate form. Both forms are linked on the “Interviewing & Selection” webpage.
