Have you logged into My Benefits lately? You may have noticed an improved homepage and some new features to help you elect and manage your benefits.
The new look and feel is not only easier to navigate, but will also display on your smart phone or tablet, so you can make updates on the go. The new portal will automatically load the next time you log in, which may be for a life event, updating a beneficiary, or during the fall Open Enrollment period.
Here are the top three reasons to take advantage of the new My Benefits portal:
Summer may mean you are tying the knot or welcoming a new addition to your family. In the updated portal, you’ll find a new feature that allows you to upload Dependent Certification documents directly into the portal—no more mailing or faxing marriage certificates or birth certificates to Stanford Benefits. Simply visit the My Benefits page on the Cardinal at Work website and log in to My Benefits using your SUnet ID. Click on the “My Benefits Elections tab” to follow the instructions on reporting a new life event. Remember, when you experience one of these or any other qualifying life events, you have 31 days from the date of event to make changes to your benefit elections.
While all employees at Stanford receive basic life insurance, many aren’t aware that you use the My Benefits portal to verify and update your beneficiaries. Your beneficiary is the person to whom your life insurance benefits are paid in the event of your death. You can designate one or more beneficiaries by logging in to the portal, and clicking on the “My Personal Information” tab and then “Beneficiaries” in the navigation. You can refer to this article for more information on how to designate beneficiaries for other benefits.
Most employees visit the My Benefits portal during Stanford's annual Open Enrollment period, which takes place this fall from Monday, October 24 through Friday, November 11. This is your chance to add or drop dependents, change medical plans, elect dental or vision coverage, and explore other benefits options. Even if you are happy with your current plan, there are some benefits that require you to re-elect each year, such as your Health Care Flexible Spending Account. All changes made during this period will take effect January 1, 2017. Stay tuned as plan information and key updates are sent to you in September.
If you have any questions about making changes to your benefits, the University HR Service Team is available to help. Through the My Benefits portal, you can submit an online request, or live chat with a specialist. See full contact information on the Benefits and Rewards Contact Us page.
