2017 Cardinal at Work Cares Giving Campaign

Employees holding up signs at Cardinal at Work Cares care pack assembly event

Stanford employees are the best!! Thanks to the thousands of personal care item donations by employees in November, and employees who sorted and assembled those items, we gave 1,400 personal care gift packs to our charities; all with a kindness card tucked in! We also assembled 443 children's activity kits!

It’s hard to imagine not having everyday personal care items like soap, shampoo or a toothbrush. For some in the Bay Area, this is a harsh reality. Everyone deserves to have these basic necessities. Let's pull together to help.

Our second annual Cardinal at Work Cares Giving Campaign is November 1 through December 1, 2017.  Donate personal care items to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need them most: families seeking medical treatment at Stanford for very ill loved ones and homeless individuals throughout the Bay Area.

Cardinal at Work Ambassadors are employee volunteers across schools, units and departments at Stanford who are championing the local donation drive. Our goal is to collect thousands of new, travel-size personal care items throughout November. We'll then assemble the donated items into care gift packs at two assembly parties in December.

Donate Personal Care Items: New, Wrapped, Travel Size Items

  • November 1–December 1: View the list of collection bin locations and give as generously as you can.
    • Our personal care gift packs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford and CityTeam homeless shelters throughout the Bay Area.

Write a "Kindness Card"

Everyone can help by writing a short note of encouragement that we will insert into each care gift pack. Use a greeting card or a postcard you already have, or just grab a 3 x 5 card. Write a short note of encouragement that could be for a recipient from either charity. For the salutation, you can sign your first name, or "from a caring Stanford employee."

Volunteer at an Assembly Party

  • Sign up for a 30-minute shift at one of two assembly parties on December 5 (Huang Engineering) and December 7 (3160 Porter Drive). Sign up for ONE, 30-minute shift:
    • Tuesday, December 5: Huang Engineering Center
    • Thursday, December 7: 3160 Porter Drive
  • At the December 7 assembly party only, we will also assemble activity kits for the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Kits are given to patients and their siblings so they have something fun to do and to ease their anxiety before a treatment. Volunteers for this activity cannot have a current illness/virus, and must agree to sanitize their hands in between making each activity kit (sanitizer provided). Sign up for ONE, 30-minute shift:
    • Thursday, December 7: 3160 Porter Drive
