From requisition to hire, CardinalTemps offers hiring managers quality talent solutions for your temporary hiring needs. Below learn how to get started, more about the service, and FAQs. 

CardinalTemps is administered by a managed service provider that oversees the requisition and candidate fulfillment process. Through a single web platform, the program aims to create a compliant, well-managed, flexible and financially sustainable pipeline of high-quality temporary talent to meet operational needs across the university.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • A seamless experience, from requisition to hire and supplier invoicing, through iProcurement, Stanford’s online purchasing system
  • Access to a wider candidate pool across multiple agencies by reaching out Cardinaltemps@stanford.edu to find out what suppliers can best support your staffing need

* CardinalTemps does not include temporary workers hired directly onto Stanford's payroll or independent contractors (hired directly or through an agency). These features may be explored in future phases of the program.

How to get started

To maintain access to iProcurement: Complete the training
Creating CardinalTemp requisitions requires access to iProcurement. Access to iProcurement is not required to approve CardinalTemp requisitions using Oracle Workflow Notifications or to review and approve CardinalTemp timesheets using Workforce Logiq.


If you require access to iProcurement and you have not yet completed the classes, please access them through STARS. Review more details about the preferred purchasing requirement on the Fingate website. The two courses can be completed in less than 60 minutes and may be needed for your other responsibilities.

  • FIN-PROG-0020: Financial Stewardship Expectations: approx. 10 minutes (requires annual certification)
  • FIN-0420: Preferred Purchasing Methods: approx. 35 minutes (no recertification required)

Upon approval to hire a temporary worker, follow these steps:

  1. Open web browser (Chrome or Firefox preferred)
  2. Log in to Oracle Financial Systems with your SUNet ID and password
  3. In the left-hand Navigator block, click SU Internet Procurement
  4. Scroll down to click the CardinalTemps tile

 

If you are unable to log in, please follow these steps to request access:

  1. Email your SUNet ID, Stanford email address and school/budget unit to the CardinalTemps Program Team or call (650) 725-2643.
  2. A program team member will submit your request and you should have single-sign-on access within 12 - 24 hours, if not sooner.

Access to CardinalTemps

What is the process to hire a temporary worker?
  1. Manager follows existing departmental process to obtain internal approvals to hire a temporary worker.
  2. Manager accesses CardinalTemps and creates an online requisition on Oracle Financial Systems website.

I see a Magnit pop-up message. What do I do now?
  • If you see this message on your screen, you will need to request access to the CardinalTemps tool.
  • You can request access to CardinalTemps by contacting our Program Team at CardinalTemps@stanford.edu; include your SUNet ID, Stanford email address and school/business unit.
  • A program team member will submit y­­our request and you should have single-sign-on access within 12 - 24 hours, if not sooner.

Requisition Creation

How do I create a CardinalTemps job requisition?
  • Access CardinalTemps (see instructions above)
  • On left hand navigation, hover over Requisitions
  • Select “Create Requisition”
  • Follow prompts to create a job requisition
  • If you need assistance, contact a program team member by emailing CardinalTemps@stanford.edu to assist you with completing the requisition.

What happens after I create and submit a CardinalTemps requisition?

A CardinalTemps program team member will review the requisition and schedule an intake session with the hiring manager to review the request and discuss the process.

Interview Scheduling

How do I schedule an interview?
  • Log in to CardinalTemps 
  • In the Staff Augmentation section, click an open requisition number
  • Click the Manage Candidate tab
  • Click the green action button and select Manage Interview

Extending an Offer

How do I extend an offer?
  • Access CardinalTemps 
  • In the Staff Augmentation section, click an Open Requisition Number
  • Click the Manage Candidate tab
  • Click the green action button next to the candidate you wish to hire and select Extend Offer

Background Screening

When is a background screen request initiated?

A background screen is initiated once a candidate accepts an offer.

How long does it take to complete a background screen?

Typically, background screens are completed within 5 to 7 days.

Can a background screen be skipped for a brief assignment?

No, a background check is required no matter the length of the work assignment.

Job Assignment Extension

How do I extend a job assignment for a temporary worker?
  • Contact the CardinalTemps Program Team at CardinalTemps@stanford.edu or call (650) 725-2643 to request an extension
  • A program team member will assist you in extending your worker on a project

Onboarding

What will the CardinalTemps program team do to help with onboarding?
  • Complete all pre-screening requirements
  • Confirm offer details
  • Complete all hiring requirements (I-9, proof of employment, W-4, etc.)
  • Guide hiring manager to onboard new worker

What do managers need to do to prepare for a new temporary worker?
  • Procure building badge
    • Departments can reach out to the building manager for a temporary card/guest card. Some building managers have these available. If your building manager does not, the department can order a guest card for the fee of $25.
    • Building managers can also request a contractor/vendor card for those who require regular access and identification by submitting a ticket for a Contractor-Vendor card for a fee of $25.
