Base Pay Administration Roles

Dean/VP or designee

  • Uphold university compensation philosophy and guiding principles at the local level
  • Review and approve or reject exceptions to base pay administration guidelines
  • Review and approve or reject exceptions to bonus and incentive targets and payouts

Budget Group

  • Determine annual overall compensation program budget based on input/data provided by the University Human Resources Staff Compensation Team

Managers and HR Managers

  • Provide input to job description development and job matches to surveys
  • Make consistent, fair and appropriate pay decisions to help promote and support the goals of his/her school/unit and Stanford overall
  • Manage pay decisions, within the confines of the overall budget for their school/unit
  • Make and communicate pay decisions to employees

Staff Compensation in University HR

  • Conduct annual compensation analyses and provide input/data for annual merit budget and incentive plan targets
  • Gather, analyze and compile competitive base and incentive compensation by job
  • Develop and maintain a competitive compensation structure
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and internal consultant to HR managers and managers
  • Develop and maintain pay administration guidelines
  • Develop and maintain job description library

Employees

  • Partner with managers to understand the pay system and individual pay opportunities; respect and maintain individual pay confidentiality
