Sequoia: Progress and what managers can do now

Two months after Sequoia’s launch, Stanford’s new HR and payroll system continues to take shape. As people managers, you play a pivotal role in our success with Sequoia by learning new processes, answering questions, and helping your teams navigate the transition. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Managers can help support their HR colleagues and teams by:

  • Promoting patience as we fine-tune our processes: System implementations require time to fully mature, and we are currently in an adjustment period. HR and Faculty Affairs colleagues are learning and troubleshooting new processes while continuing to support employees and managers across Stanford.
  • Sharing questions and feedback through the appropriate support channel. Submit HR-related requests through the HR Service Center. Submit time card, absence, and payroll requests through the Finance Support Center. Both portals also offer Sequoia-related help articles.
  • Partnering with your HR team. Continue to share your experiences, approach challenges with curiosity, and extend grace and understanding as we all learn together.

Sequoia by the numbers

Since the July launch:

Help ticket volumes are declining, an encouraging sign that our community is actively engaging and building system capability. At the same time, we greatly appreciate your patience and partnership as we continue to refine some processes and complex transactions, including delegations, workflows, and notifications. Stay tuned for updates in the coming months.

Support needs may increase as the academic year gets underway, which means continued demand on our HR teams, who are also mastering the system's intricacies alongside you.

Continuing to improve Sequoia

Our HR teams are using your feedback to identify solutions and help escalate opportunities for future enhancements. Thank you for your partnership, persistence, adaptability, and commitment to our community. We’re not just navigating a new system—we are evolving our work processes to create operational efficiencies that enhance the employee experience.
