Update on Sequoia’s launch
The university is postponing the launch of Sequoia, our new HR and Payroll system that was planned for January 2026. This decision was made by University Human Resources, University IT, and Stanford leadership to ensure the system is ready to fully support our faculty and staff when it goes live.
The implementation of Sequoia is a large and important change that will bring together many of the tools and tasks we use today into one connected system. As we’ve prepared for launch, testing and feedback have shown that more time is needed to make sure the system works smoothly, integrates well with Stanford’s other tools, and delivers the reliable experience our community expects.
What's next?
Over the next several weeks, the implementation team will continue their work to build and test the system. Project leaders will review next steps, and an updated launch timeline will be shared with the community once it is confirmed.
Deep appreciation goes to the project team, local HR teams, and the more than 270 Sequoia Ambassadors across schools and units who have helped prepare for this transition. Large system implementations often evolve as testing and feedback refine the path forward, and the work completed to date has built a strong foundation to support the next phase.
The HR Service Center
While the launch of Sequoia will occur later than originally planned, we are moving forward with a modified version of the new HR Service Center team that does not rely on the new system. This enhanced service support remains scheduled to launch in January 2026 and will offer employees a more coordinated and consistent approach to HR support through phone calls or ServiceNow help tickets.
This phased approach allows us to strengthen HR support now, while continuing to build toward the full HR Service Center that will launch alongside Sequoia. You can read more about the HR Service Center in the Cardinal at Work Insider article Meet Sequoia: 5 things to expect with Stanford’s HR and Payroll system upgrade. Additional details about the center and how it will support you will be shared in the weeks ahead.
Looking ahead
Until Sequoia is ready, employees will continue using the systems they use today, such as Axess for HR-related tasks, Taleo and the Stanford Careers site for recruiting and job applications, and other familiar tools that support daily work.
This adjustment reflects our shared commitment to getting the launch right and supporting our community through this important transition. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we move forward with Sequoia.
