Your health can't wait: Schedule preventive dental and vision exams today

Pssst…when was the last time you visited the dentist? How about the eye doctor? Preventive care catches issues before they become headaches - literally!

If you’re struggling to remember the last time you had a dental exam or vision check, you’re not alone. Life can get busy, but taking care of your dental and vision health is a vital part of maintaining your overall wellness.

Prevention is key

Regular eye exams can detect early signs of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, and even uncover underlying health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Routine dental check-ups help you treat problems like cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer early on, often preventing the need for more extensive and costly treatments later.

By staying ahead of potential issues, you can avoid unnecessary discomfort, financial burdens, and more serious health complications down the line.

Build healthy habits: Find an in-network provider and schedule your exams

The eyes are the windows to the soul

All Stanford health plans cover one routine eye exam per year. Simply coordinate with your primary care physician to get yours scheduled. You can also visit the Health & Life Plans page to learn more about what is covered through your medical plan.

If you are enrolled in Stanford’s VSP Vision Care plan, visit vsp.com/eye-doctor or call 800-877-7195 to find an in-network doctor near you. Your VSP plan pays for one exam and a $200 frame allowance for glasses each year. To learn more about what’s covered under VSP, explore the Employee Vision Plan page.

A smile is the prettiest thing you can wear

To help you maintain your gorgeous smile as well as good overall health, you have a choice of two dental plans: Delta Dental Basic and Delta Dental Enhanced. Both plans give you access to Delta Dental’s large provider network and include diagnostic and preventive checkups, twice-yearly cleanings, and coverage for basic and major services. For a side-by-side comparison of the two plans, select “Dental” under Benefit Type in the Comparison Tool.

Additionally, for those with qualified medical issues such as diabetes or heart disease, you may be eligible for the SmileWay benefit, which provides enhanced dental treatment, including three or more cleanings a year.

Note: Stanford continually audits other dental networks and has found that Delta Dental has the largest national network. New dental groups continue to join Delta, ensuring you have access to a wide range of in-network providers for your dental care needs. If you're enrolled in this dental plan, visit deltadental.com to locate an in-network dentist near you. Remember, staying in-network keeps your costs lower.
