Child Care Tuition Support for Students and Postdocs
The university allocates funding to support child care access for student and postdoc families at Stanford. These tuition support programs offset the on-campus child care center tuition rates, while allowing our operators to meet their business objectives.
These programs are available to families enrolled in Stanford's on-campus child care programs who are Stanford University matriculated students or appointed postdoctoral scholars through the Stanford Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
Tuition Reduction Program (TRP)
The TRP provides a 5% reduction in child care tuition for all student and postdoc families enrolled in Stanford University on-campus child care.
Eligibility
- There are no income eligibility criteria to participate in TRP.
- The full 5% monthly tuition reduction will be available for each child in a family.
- Enrollment in other Stanford financial assistance programs does not disqualify participation in the TRP.
- Families will automatically become participants in this program; no application is needed.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP provides additional tuition assistance to income-eligible Stanford students and postdoc families who meet the program's eligibility requirements. Eligible families must submit a new TAP application each year to be considered for assistance.

The table below outlines specific income eligibility criteria for Stanford student and postdoc families:

- The awards are available to children of all ages, regardless of their enrolled schedule.
- Student and postdoc families who participate in the TAP are also fully eligible for the TRP.
- Tuition discounts, scholarships, and/or grants available to the family will be considered when applying for TAP.
- If the family has more than one child enrolled in the program, the award will be applied to each child.
Application Details and Additional Eligibility Information
Applications, eligibility requirements, and information about required documents are available directly from each on-campus child care center upon enrollment. To obtain the application, please contact the enrollment team at the program where your child is enrolled.
There is no due date for the application. However, student and postdoc families must apply annually for TAP. Applications will be reviewed, and funds will be awarded as applications are received.

Yes. TRP and TAP are separate programs and you may participate in both simultaneously.
Your family will automatically receive a 5% reduction for each child’s monthly tuition.
In addition to receiving 5% off child care tuition through TRP, if awarded the TAP, the discount will be applied to each child in the family.
If you share a household with the parent of your child(ren), are married, have a registered domestic partner, or have listed a second authorized parent to pick up children from the child care program, they are considered your co-applicant and they must meet (and submit proof for) one of the requirements listed here:
- Employed at least 50% full-time equivalent
- A full-time student
- Unable to work due to a disability
You will ned to apply for TAP annually. Applications become available in September of each year.

- Postdoc Family Grant Program: In addition to the Child Care Assistance Grant Program, the Family Grant offers postdocs with families up to $5,000 per year for living expenses that span beyond child care, including food, transportation, and medical expenses.
- Graduate Student Family Grant Program: This program offers graduate students up to $20,000 to cover child-related expenses such as child care, healthcare, insurance, and rent.
