Updates and additional modules coming to The IDEAL Learning Journey

The IDEAL Learning Journey will undergo multiple updates in 2024, including transitioning workshops to e-learning and additional optional learning opportunities.

Since its launch in March 2022, The IDEAL Learning Journey has made significant progress as we aim to learn together to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture at Stanford.

A shared experience all staff have been invited to participate in, the Learning Journey offers learning opportunities designed by experts to help the Stanford community build awareness, strengthen skills, and apply positive approaches in daily interactions so we feel respected and have a sense of belonging.

As 2023 comes to a close, some program progress highlights include:

  • More than 4,500 staff members have completed the Learning Journey
  • An additional 4,500 staff or faculty have started the Learning Journey
  • Cardinal at Work has been updated with tools to support learning, including a learning options tool for all participants and an inclusive dialogue tool for participants who have completed the Learning Journey
  • Additional tools were provided to local HR leaders
  • Two Open Discussion pilots were successfully completed with an average participant satisfaction rate of 90% and above
  • Phases 1 and 2 of the Technology and Language Accommodation track were designed, developed, and launched to support learning for more than 200 staff across multiple areas, including Athletics; Residential & Dining Enterprises; Land, Buildings, and Real Estate; and the School of Medicine

IDEAL Learning Journey updates in 2024

The IDEAL Learning Journey remains a critical initiative as we work to embrace diversity, advance equity, and cultivate inclusion at Stanford. To support long-term sustainability for the program as well as to encourage more community participation, the Learning Journey will undergo multiple updates in 2024 based on participant feedback and to plan for future learning needs related to IDEAL.

Beginning on February 19, the current interactive Foundations of Racial Equity and Allyship in Action workshops will be replaced with a 1-hour Equity and Allyship e-learning module, allowing flexibility to complete the Learning Journey at your own pace.

A 2-hour Equity and Allyship workshop will be offered to provide an opportunity to review the e-learning content and have meaningful discussions with peers. Attending the workshop is optional, and participants who are currently in progress will receive priority enrollment. Workshop registration will become available via STARS on February 19, and the workshop sessions will be offered monthly beginning in March.

As these updates are made to The IDEAL Learning Journey, Cardinal at Work will continue to be updated with the latest information about the Learning Journey as well as related support resources. In the meantime, if you have not already done so, we encourage you to engage with the Learning Journey.
