Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP)

How much do we receive each year for STAP funds?

The current maximum STAP reimbursement is:

  • $800 for eligible employees not covered by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • $700 for eligible employees covered by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement

  • Tuition and registration fees
  • Required course textbooks and other eligible media 
  • Stanford Technology Training courses
  • Stanford Healthy Living Courses (where designated as STAP-eligible)
  • Stanford Continuing Studies Program (CSP) courses
  • Stanford Talent Management & Workforce Strategy (TM&WS) courses
  • Stanford Career Counseling Network (CCN) up to $500
  • Stanford Children’s Health (LPCH) parenting and prenatal courses (only employee’s portion of the course fee; not family members, if a joint course)
  • Courses, workshops, webinars (e.g., Coursera or SkillPath)
  • Registration fees for seminars, professional conferences, and symposiums may also be eligible

How do I use my STAP funds?

STAP balances are available and updated in Axess. Employees needing information about their STAP balances can log into the Employee Center in Axess and find them at the top of the page.

How do I sign up for an I-9 appointment?

Sign up on the Central I-9 Appointment website.

*Note: Some departments and schools do not utilize the Central I-9 appointment locations to complete the verification process. Please check with your local HR point of contact to see if an appointment is needed.

Stanford ID card

Where can I get a Stanford ID card?

Right now you can only do physical badge pick-ups on Stanford campus. There is a Redwood City badging office, but that is currently closed with no set re-opening date. You must make a badging appointment to get a physical badge.

Retirement

How do I sign up for the monthly retirement session?

You can sign up for the monthly retirement overview session at this link. If none of these dates work for your schedule, there is a recorded version of the presentation available on demand on Cardinal at Work.

Benefits

When does the benefits overview session happen?

There is a benefits overview session every Tuesday at 11:00am PST. If Monday is a day off, the Welcome Center orientation moves to Tuesday and the benefits overview session moves to Wednesday.

What is the link to the benefits session?

You can find the link to the benefits session in your welcome email from "welcome-to-stanford@stanford.edu." 

How long do I have to enroll in benefits?

You must enroll in benefits within 31 days of your start date. You must log in and make a selection even if you want to decline coverage. Those who do not make a selection within 31 days of their start date will be automatically enrolled.

Welcome gift

Will I receive a welcome gift from Stanford?

Please note: this program launched in February 2024

Yes, benefits-eligible employees who attend the Welcome Center will receive an email with a $25 Fanatics virtual discount code to use on our GoStanford website. Please note that you will receive the email within a week of starting at Stanford and that the discount code expires after 30 days.

Does the discount code cover cover shipping, handling, and tax?

The discount code does not cover shipping, handling, or tax.
