The IDEAL Learning Journey Steps

Optional Open Discussion Groups

Starting in winter quarter 2023, optional Open Discussion Groups offer a space for learners to discuss their feelings and learning experiences and are an opportunity for learners to orient themselves to the ways of thinking in which they will engage during the two-part Racial Equity Workshop.

In a series of small group discussions, guided by expert facilitators, participants will be asked to consider what they have learned so far in their Learning Journey, reflect on their current approach to navigating difficult conversations and engage in dialogue with colleagues about their ongoing learning.

To get the most out of your learning experience, please:

  • Find a quiet space from which to join the discussion group
  • Turn on your camera so you can see others and they can see you when you are discussing learnings
  • Be prepared to share your opinions and learnings

Pre-Racial Equity Workshop Open Discussion Group (for individual contributors)

In this pre-workshop open discussion group, you will have the opportunity to prepare for the sometimes uncomfortable conversations that might surface as you move through the Learning Journey as an individual and with your colleagues. Through open-ended, small group conversation prompts, and whole group discussions guided by expert facilitators, you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Consider what you have learned so far about implicit bias

  2. Discover ways to learn with and from others about implicit bias

  3. Reflect on how you navigate difficult conversations and ways to overcome any discomfort you might experience

Pre-Racial Equity Workshop Open Discussion Group (for managers)

In this pre-workshop open discussion group, you will have the opportunity to prepare for the sometimes uncomfortable conversations that might surface as you move through the Learning Journey as an individual, with your colleagues, and team members. Through open-ended, small group conversation prompts, and whole group discussions guided by expert facilitators, you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Consider what you have learned so far about implicit bias

  2. Discover ways to learn with and from others about implicit bias

  3. Reflect on how you navigate difficult conversations and ways to overcome any discomfort you might experience

Open Discussion Groups will begin to be regularly offered during winter quarter, 2023.
